# What should I know about ACATs from Morgan Stanley?

Our latest research shows that Morgan Stanley charges a fee for outgoing transfers, please refer to their website for the most up-to-date information on applicable fees. Before initiating a transfer, please ensure you have enough cash in your account at Morgan Stanley to cover any transfer fees that they may charge.

Securities should be held in a brokerage account to be eligible for transfer. Securities held in an employer-sponsored account at Morgan Stanley will be unable to be transferred via ACATS. If your securities are currently held in an employer-sponsored account, you should first transfer them to a brokerage account before beginning the ACATS process. The fastest way to accomplish this is to call the customer service number from your Morgan Stanley portal.  If the MS rep requests Pershing's clearing number, it is 0443.
